The Perfect Date Night at Home

My husband and I try really hard to make date night a priority, but some months it seems nearly impossible. Whether it’s a babysitting issue or it’s a busy month at my husband’s work, sometimes date night just doesn’t happen. When I discovered Date Night In box, I was immediately interested. We could use a no-excuse-date-night-IS-going-to-happen-even-if-it-happens-at-home kinda option.

I shared a sneak peek of the date night on my Instastories, and y’all, I was just giddy waiting for date night to happen the next night! Everything was SO creative and intentional. Ten times better than any date night I could create on my own. I shared the details with my husband and even he was excited!

We had one rule. We had to dress up. I’m so glad we did this because it made it feel like it was something special…and it was.

You may be wondering how we made date night work with four kiddos at home. Well, our plan was to cook a pizza for our kiddos and supply them with some snacks and let them watch a movie upstairs. Our eleven year old acted as our babysitter and she did a fabulous job! Not once did the kiddos come down.

Once the kiddos were upstairs, we began cooking our own meal. Date Night In box actually supplies a dinner plan that corresponds with the date’s theme. We enjoyed some sparkling grape juice (pregnant lady here), an appetizer of fig, brie and walnuts, a veggie bruschetta pizza main dish (which was absolutely delish!), and creme puffs for dessert. Chocolate crepes were included in the box to snack on as well!

After our meal, we dived into a quiz to figure out our love language. In case you’re interested, mine were acts of service and receiving gifts and my husband’s was acts of service and physical touch. We sorta already knew our love language, but it was nice to be reminded that we need to make an effort to make our spouse feel loved.

Next, we had to write a love letter to each other. Questions were provided to guide you through writing the letter. That part was really hard for me, but it was definitely worth it when we read them at the end of the date night. It was nice reminder of where we had been, where we were, and what we hoped for the future of our marriage.

The big chunk of the date night is sorta hard to explain. We were transported back in time to 1919, France. We had character cards and chose a person to be for the evening. Our characters were in love during the war, but separated. We had clues in five envelopes that we had to solve to find the time and location that our characters would meet and be reunited. I’m not going to lie. The clues were hard for us to solve. It was super fun, but I’m obviously out of practice in my sleuthing abilities! Luckily, if you got stuck, you could go to their websites for hints on how to solve the clues.

As soon as our date night in was over, I was already excited for our next month to arrive! I can’t wait to share where our next date night in will take us! To grab your own box, you can subscribe here!
