My Latest Craigslist Deals for the Home

When I first joined IG, I was drawn to homes that had old, unique pieces, and the chippier the better! I had always been the type of gal that headed to the local furniture store and picked out the bedroom suite or couch set. I just wasn’t all that confident in my abilities to piece different items together. But as I scrolled through the squares of Liz Marie Galvan’s IG account, I knew that was what I wanted for my home. One of a kind pieces that held a story. A look that couldn’t be replicated by going to the local furniture store. I wanted my home to be full of pieces that made me smile. And all the better if they were white.

I get asked a lot where I find the pieces for my home. Some have come from antique stores, but mostly from Craigslist. And that’s because you simply can’t beat Craigslist’s prices. It’s where the antiquers go to find a lot of their stuff! If there is a piece I’m searching for, I will search for it every single day! Right now my searches look like this: crocks, iron twin bed, church pew, theater seats.

So, today, I wanted to share some of my Craigslist finds over the last few months. I’ve gotten some pretty good deals!

The faux mantle. I found this piece in the Spring. I wanted a fireplace for my bedroom mini-makeover and found this one for $35. It did not look like this when I bought it! It had layers and layers of latex paint.  A girl had actually come to look at it before me and had turned it down! I brought it home and spent many hours stripping the paint off and sanding it down to get this chippy, shabby look! How far did I drive to get it? About an hour both ways.

This old washboard stand was $40. I have seen several of these in antiques store since and none lower than $165. The wood had seen better days so I used Miss Mustard Seed milk paint to give it this chippy look. The drawer sticks a bit, but that wasn’t a deal- breaker for me…not for $40. How far did I drive to get it? About 45 minutes both ways.

If you follow me on IG, this is THE PIECE! And it has a story all on it’s own, but I’ll save that for another day. She is a whopping 9 foot tall and I can’t even get a good picture of all of her. My husband has named her Myrtle because she was a beach to go get! <insert laughing face>. I found a piece very similar to this one in an antique store and it sold for $699, I think. We paid $175 for this one. How far did my HUSBAND drive to go get it? THREE hours both ways. I’m so grateful to him for doing that because this piece will stay in my family until it falls apart (I hope!).

I’m obsessed with crocks lately. I think they have sorta replaced the thrill of Rae Dunn hunting. Unfortunately, most of the ones I find are WAY overpriced.  I found this 12 gallon crock on Craigslist for $20!! How far did I drive to get it? Two and a half hours both ways but it was totally worth it!

I’d love to hear about your best Craigslist home decor finds! What’s the best deal you’ve gotten? How far have you driven to score a great deal?
