Date Night In Review: Blind Date

Y’all, this is our second month of Date Night In and it’s really and truly so much fun. I receive this box for free to share with you guys, but if they stopped their affiliate program, I’d hand my money over in a heartbeat. This service is fun and creative and something my husband (yes, he loves it too) and I really look forward to each month.

So, what is it, you may ask? It’s a monthly subscription box and they have different options (1, 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions). You get a box, filled with instructions and accessories for a pre-planned date night. It’s perfect for the parents who may not have access to a babysitter. It’s perfect for the couple who need a little creative inspo when it comes to date night. They also have two other box options: Faith Night In and Kids Night In.

How do we make Date Night In work when we have four kiddos at home? We cook a quick dinner for he kids and send them upstairs with it. We buy them some snacks, a sweet treat, rent a movie for them and our 11 year old really does a great job of babysitting everyone. Not once have we had a kid come downstairs during our date night (yep, I’m knocking on wood right now). If you have little littles, I’d try to put them to bed a little earlier or wait for a night that you and your husband can stay up a little late.

Once the kiddos are upstairs, we begin cooking our own meal…together. It’s been really nice to cook a meal with my husband without the chaos that normally goes on during dinner time. One of my favorite things about the box is they include a menu with a shopping list. And the meals have been really good! The desserts have been a little complicated so we chose a different option.

Now that I’ve shared all the details, let’s dive in and see a snippet of our Date Night In.

So, this month’s theme was Blind Date, complete with two blindfolds, masking tape, a dry erase board (not pictured), a dry erase marker, cotton candy, and lip balm. Not going to lie, the contents made me blush a little!

Our dinner began with a meat and cheese tray (all from Aldi’s…man, I love that place!).

There was a little prep work that needed to be done for the main course (roasting some garlic and cooking sausage) that I should have done prior to the date, but we used that time to get started with our box. The date was guided by a man’s voice that you listened on audio clips on the computer (or mobile device). The first activity was for me to draw a beach scene with my blindfold on.

And then I had to draw it again, with my husband using his words to guide me. The activity worked on communication and team work.

Next up, my husband was supposed to draw my profile, while blindfolded. Then we did it a second time, where I directed him and could help position his hand three different times. That picture didn’t turn out very PG. lol

We took a break to continue working on our main course. I rolled the pizza dough out and we assembled the pizza. While it was cooking…

We had to build an obstacle course and lead one another through it.

Pizza’s done! No mushrooms on my side, please!! Anyone else hate mushrooms?

We didn’t take photos of the last two activities. Mainly because we were both blindfolded!! We fed each other cotton candy (while blindfolded) which enhanced our sense of taste. And then our guide asked us questions and we took turns responding while blindfolded (so we could focus on each other’s answers). I really loved this part of the date because even though we’ve been married for awhile, I rarely ask things like, “What have I done lately to make you feel loved?” I really get to know my husband a bit better during these dates!

Lastly, we have a rule where we get dressed up and treat this as a special date. It makes it feel more like a priority to us.

I’m always happy to answer any questions concerning date night! I’m already looking forward to the next box! 🙂

Until next time, friends!!

Sharlie
