Classic Christmas Tablescape

Let me start off by being real honest here, tablescapes are normally only done for an Instagram picture and then it all comes down. There’s one dining table at our house and it’s used three times a day for meals and then for homeschooling and for building Legos and for coloring pictures and making comic books….you get the idea. That’s okay, though! I love that our house is lived in and memories are made and every once in awhile my creative juices can have fun and create something pretty and fun.

I’ll tell you what’s the hard part…coming up with new stuff. Especially without spending a fortune, especially since it’s only up for about 24 hours at most at my house. It’s also hard when you have a really awesome idea for one year and you aren’t sure how you can possibly top it.

Last year, I created what I called my “Winter Wonderland” tablescape. I set out to create a village with my white Target houses and there were tall trees. In my mind, it was my ode to those old Christmas cartoons where you span out and see this little town. I really loved it. I used silver garland to make it look like snow around the village.

I took a different approach this year and decided to create a classic look with plaid and garland. I bought a roll of plaid wrapping paper from Walmart for $5 to use as my runner and had plenty to use for wrapping presents too! The garland is from Hobby Lobby. It took two strands for our dining room table. I wanted both the runner and garland to drape over the edge. I used a white piece of wood to add a little texture and my brass candlesticks were a gift from my friend Jenifer @patinadporch over on Instagram.

Can y’all believe that’s $5 Walmart wrapping paper?

The gold chargers are from Pier 1, as well as my white plates. The sheet music was a vintage find from Etsy. I’m so happy with how it turned out! It’s exactly the classic look that I was going for!

If you followed along in my stories when I did this tablescape, you’ll know I had a general idea for the look I was going for, but it really took just playing around with items I already had and adding or taking away until I got the look I was going for. My best piece of advice is to just have fun! It’s okay if you don’t get it right the first time…or even the second or third! I’d love to see your tablescapes over on IG! Make sure to tag me! Oh, and am I the only one that just loves plaid at Christmas? Until next time! From my porch to yours!

XO,

Sharlie
