Hi, friend! If you are new here, I’m Sharlie! Wife to Benjamin and mom of six kiddos (ages 13 to our almost four month old). I share our life here on the blog and over on Instagram. My hope is that I can encourage you to live a life you love and make you giggle along the way! I also love to visit small towns and take you along with me! Today, I’m sharing our day trip to Landrum, SC!
I had been mulling the idea of taking my IG followers along on weekly antiquing trips for awhile, but it was a visit to a small town with my friend, Jen, that helped the idea of day trips really come alive. On a Saturday, I drove to Batesburg-Leesville and we spent the day going from store to store. We ate at a local restaurant and then to a coffee shop for coffee. I came away feeling like I’d been on a little vacation and realized just how many hidden jewels are around us, occupying beautiful old downtowns.
In May, I began visiting a local town each Friday. I share the visit in my IG stories, take lots of pictures, and come home to write up the blog. My oldest daughter, Pressley, and Baby Miller come along. Go check out the other small towns I’ve visited so far: Abbeville, Laurens, Pendleton, Simpsonville/Fountain Inn, Easley, Pickens, Edgefield, and Belton/Honea Path. The Upstate of South Carolina really has so many things you can do!
I try to stick to the downtown area on these trips. First, most downtowns I’ve visited have so much to do that it takes up most of our day. Second, I like the idea of parking, getting out, and going from store to store. I also have a four month old on these trips so some must-see places (hiking trails, etc) just aren’t things I can do right now. If you live in Landrum or are familiar with it, I would LOVE for you to share in the comments places I didn’t get a chance to visit so that readers can know what to check out.
I know I missed a lot of good places. I seriously could have made this a weekend trip. And I might just do that one day!
Y’all, this day trip to Landrum, SC was a real treat! Landrum is just on the edge of South Carolina, a few miles away from North Carolina’s state line. It is also the farthest I’ve gone for a day trip, an hour and a half away from our house. As we got closer to Landrum, the mountains were in the background, making a beautiful backdrop.
Each town I visit has it’s own personality. Landrum is an antique lover’s paradise! It made my heart happy to see the streets bustling with people as we drove down the main downtown section trying to find parking. A two lane road separates the two sides of stores. There is parallel parking and parking lots behind the stores. Landrum’s downtown feels established. There are very few, if any, vacant buildings. It has the perfect mix of restaurants, antique stores, and boutiques.
Antiquing is my happy place. I was able to visit at least five antique stores in Landrum and there were more that I didn’t get a chance to visit. The first store we visited was The Shops at LAM. This sprawling store is comprised of several different shops and booths. There are antiques galore! You can also buy olive oil, soaps, clothes, and lots of other goodies. This is a store that has something for everyone and it was so much fun to go from room to room.
We continued down the street to the next antique store called Expressions Antiques. Pressley’s eyes lit up when she saw the glass case of truffles up front. This store has three stories full of booths. There were antiques and floral arrangements. The people working were friendly and the prices were very reasonable.
At the end of this street is a restaurant called The Hare and Hound. It was busy and smelled so good as we walked by. We thought about stopping to eat here, but there was a wait and I wasn’t quite ready to eat yet so we turned at the corner to see what down that street. I’m glad we did because there were two stores that I loved and the cutest historic house that is for sale.
We first stopped at a building that housed a clothing store and Pee Ridge Vintiques. Pee Ridge Vintiques has some absolutely amazing pieces of furniture that they have upcycled and painted. There are light fixtures and some antiques. There was a marshmallow tin that I wish I had a place for! They also sell Dixie Bell paint.
There was also a Restore thrift shop on this road that we stepped into. I think it is one of the best thrift stores I’ve ever been in. A must for the thrifter!
We made our way back to the main downtown road. We stopped into Foothills Amish Furniture store and the smell of wood greeted us as we walked inside. The furniture was absolutely amazing and the staff were super friendly. Most of the furniture is made by the Amish in Ohio and Indiana.
Our next stop was P3 Consignment and Thrift Boutique. This store had all kinds of goodies and was packed to the brim. You can find consignment items and clothes here, as well as jewelry and home decor pieces.
We were hungry at this point and had found ourselves at Southern Delights. Someone had mentioned this spot as a great place to grab a sandwich or a treat so we decided to stop in to eat. I’m so glad we did. The owner and staff were so kind to us. I ordered one of the specials: a Reuben and Potato Bacon soup. Pressley had a turkey sandwich and some of the best potato salad I’ve ever had! We ended up stopping back by here before we left to buy a little treat for the ride home. The peanut butter pie is phenomenal!
After lunch, we headed back outside to explore the rest of this side of the street. Southern Karma was our first stop. This cute boutique features women’s clothing and shoes. The prices are very reasonable and I could have went on a shopping spree here! They had the cutest orange and purple dress for a Clemson football game.
Our next stop was Yankee Peach. This antique store had the cutest lavender Mason jars! This store has a great mix of antiques from furniture to advertisement tins to old tools.
It was time to head home so we could get back before dinner. Some places that I know of and we didn’t get a chance to visit are: Mocha’s Mug for coffee, The Vintage Corner looks to be a great place to stop in for a home decor item, Savvy Scavengers is another great antique store, and Poinsett Bridge was mentioned as a must-see.
About three miles down the road, right at the state line are a few antique stores. I decided to run into one of them before heading home. Oh my! I’m so glad I did! Dark Horse Antique Market is one of the best antique stores I’ve ever been to! I bought a couple of pictures from here to go on my gallery wall. It’s technically in Tryon so I will have to stop by again when I do my Tryon visit! 🙂
One of the best ways to help support someone is to share their business with others. It doesn’t cost a dime for you, but it can help them immensely! If you are local to Landrum or are a business owner there, please share this post on you social media accounts! Every share can helps build morale, drive business, or just brighten someone’s day.
