I LOVE to go antiquing! For me, stepping into an antique store is like going on a little adventure. You never know what kind of hidden jewel you might find! I want to share five things I look for when I go antiquing!
My heart loves collections. I think similar items can look beautiful when displayed together. I think collections make antiquing a little more fun and exciting when you happen to spot an item you collect…even better when it’s a deal of a price!
1.Wooden Mashers: I started collection wooden mashers/pounders over a year ago. I was out antiquing in Tennessee, spotted a group of them, and decided to buy three of them to just start a collection. Since then, I’ve added to the bunch and I love how they look grouped together. This is probably my largest collection. They are also probably the least expensive to collect. Etsy is a great place to find these too!
2. Marmalade Jars: Oh, how I love these jars. They are a little too pricey for me to collect a whole bunch of these right now, but I just love them.
3. Mirrors: I think mirrors can make such an impact in a space! I personally like gold framed ones and if they are oval and gold, it’s even better!
4. Chandeliers: I’m always on the hunt for a beautiful chandelier at a decent price! I recently walked into an antique store that had row after row of chandeliers hanging up…oh, be still my heart!
5. Copper Accents: I love copper. I think it adds a fun pop in a kitchen. These canisters aren’t just decoration either. I can use them for storage, which is a great bonus!
Let’s throw some honorable mentions out there.
Some of my favorite local places to go antiquing are Pickens, Abbeville, and Easley (that’s the place with rows of chandeliers!). What are your five items to look for while antiquing?
I look for silver serving pieces like pickle forks, spreaders, ladles. I keep them in a silver sugar bowl on counter for everyday use. Love to find iced teaspoons or tablespoons bundled together, I give those as wedding presents along with a note about patina on silver, polishing and how it relates to a successful marriage
I love this idea, Joyce! I think I have a new thing to look for! 🙂 Thank you for sharing!
